The true cost of eggs

Chickens were created to fly; perch; play; socialize with other chickens; mate, raise young; enjoy the sun and sky for about 8 years.

In the Egg industry, the males are killed after hatching (video made in Australia, but its the same worldwide). Most of their sisters live through about 18 months of hell in tight filthy “battery cages”. There is little room to move or stretch wings. Their beaks are cut so they can’t peck each other from the anger and stress.

These chickens are standing on mesh flooring. When they poop, it falls on to chickens below to the floor.

The hens are killed after they are “spent”, that is, their egg production drops. It’s more economical to hatch new victims. There are less common “Cage Free” and “Free Range” egg production methods that are still crowded.

Cage free

Free Range

The killing is the same for males at birth and females in about 18 months.

The hens are thrown into tiny cages on trucks. They are then shipped with no food or water in any weather however hot or cold to be slaughtered. At about 18 months of age, their misery is over.

A box of eggs looks like a nice healthy food, but that is questionable. There is a terrible hidden cost of suffering in the eggs. There are better things to eat.
